AI-powered photo editor from Skylum for photographers who want one-click enhancements, sky replacement, and generative editing on desktop and mobile.
Why we recommend it
Luminar Neo is one of the last mainstream editors with a true one-time license, and its one-click AI tools are genuinely fast for sky replacement and retouching. The trade-offs are performance on large catalogs and generative tools locked behind an optional subscription.
Strengths
- One-click AI tools including sky replacement, background removal, portrait retouching, and generative edits (GenErase, GenSwap, GenExpand)
- Perpetual one-time license with cross-device editing across desktop, mobile, and web (web coming Fall 2026)
Keep in mind
- Users report slowness and occasional crashes on large catalogs and high-resolution files, and RAW engine output is criticized versus Adobe Lightroom and Capture One
- Generative AI features and new tools are gated behind the optional Luminar Prime subscription, and major version upgrades have historically required new purchases, fueling subscription backlash
