Learning & Certification

Design education splits by what you actually need: a credential, a structured curriculum, or an answer to one specific gap.

Credentials first, because that is usually the real question. The Google UX Certificate on Coursera is the recognised entry-level one and is billed monthly, so finishing quickly costs less. The Interaction Design Foundation issues course certificates on a flat subscription. Nielsen Norman Group’s UX certification is the one most likely to mean something to a hiring manager, at a price that reflects it. None of them substitutes for a portfolio.

Bootcamps — Springboard, CareerFoundry, Designlab, General Assembly, Memorisely — buy structure and a mentor rather than knowledge you could not find free. The job guarantees attached to some of them carry conditions worth reading before you pay.

For craft rather than career, Learn UI Design and Shift Nudge go deep on visual precision, School of Motion is the reference for motion work, and Frontend Masters is the strongest bridge into code.

A good deal here costs nothing: freeCodeCamp, ADPList for mentorship, Figma Academy, Laws of UX, and Case Study Club for seeing what a real portfolio actually looks like.

Prices are checked by hand and the drawbacks are written out.
