1. What this site is
The Design Tools is an editorial directory of design software, plus a small number of free interactive tools we build and host ourselves. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of any product listed here unless a listing explicitly says so.
2. The interactive tools
We host free browser-based tools including a colour palette generator, a colour contrast checker and a CSS gradient generator.
They run entirely in your browser. There is no upload, no account, and no server-side storage of anything you enter. See the privacy policy for detail.
You own your output
Colours, palettes, gradients and CSS you produce with these tools are yours. We claim no rights over them and place no restriction on their use, commercial or otherwise. You do not need to credit us.
Provided as-is
The tools are provided free and without warranty. We have tested them, but we cannot guarantee they are error-free, available without interruption, or suitable for any particular purpose.
This matters most for the contrast checker: it implements the WCAG contrast formula and reports a ratio accurately, but a passing ratio is not a determination of legal accessibility compliance. Contrast is one of many WCAG success criteria. Do not treat the output as an accessibility audit or as legal advice.
Your work is not backed up
Because nothing is stored on our servers, nothing can be recovered by us. Anything saved by a tool lives in your browser’s local storage and is lost if you clear it. Keep your own copy of work you care about.
3. Acceptable use
You may use this site and its tools for any lawful purpose, including commercial work. You may not:
- scrape, bulk-download or systematically copy the directory;
- attempt to disrupt, overload or gain unauthorised access to the site;
- republish substantial portions of our editorial content as your own.
Linking to us, quoting us with attribution, and using the tools as much as you like are all fine.
4. Accuracy of the directory
We check pricing, licence terms and product claims against each vendor’s own materials, and we date our research. Software changes without notice. If something here is out of date or wrong, tell us and we will correct it.
Nothing in the directory is professional advice. Decisions about what to buy or adopt remain yours.
5. Affiliate links and sponsorship
Some outbound links earn us a commission at no cost to you, and some placements are paid. Paid placements are labelled. Payment never buys a better review, and every listing states real drawbacks. See the privacy policy for how affiliate tracking works.
6. Liability
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for loss or damage arising from use of this site or its tools, including lost work, lost profits, or decisions made in reliance on information published here. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
7. Changes
We may update these terms. Material changes will be reflected in the date at the top.
